Everyone is buzzing about the 2020 NSale – is it good, disappointing, worth the time and money? Where does it intersect the Fall 2020 Trends to get the best bang for our buck?
The NSale is unique in the fact that it puts the UPCOMING season’s items on sale, PRIOR to the season! Instead of buying things on sale at the end of the season, you have the entire season ahead to wear the things you got for a steal. I’m a fan of Nordstrom for their quality of goods and their great customer service. That said, I’m not advocating we buy everything. I’m going to walk you through my creative approach and give you all the tools to make the best choices for your budget and your style!
1. Identify the fall 2020 trend Forecast
Don’t worry – this isn’t on you! During my Fashion Buyer days, my favorite thing was trend forecasting! It’s one of my favorite parts of this space! I’m giving you my trend forecast for Fall 2020 in an easy to grab photo (just right click and save – and if you want to sign up for my emails, I’d love to stay in touch!).
Key Trends Fall 2020
- Comfy – as we continue to work our way through COVID and the scenarios it presents, even our dressier fashions have comfy elements to them.
- Casual – with our newly at-home geared lifestyles, casual elements prevail. Even in more formal settings, we’re seeing casual elements woven throughout!
- Cozy – fabrics, touches, fits – so many soft, oversized, cozy elements!
- Classic – again, with the prevalence of COVID in our lives, classic styles create an anchor. Classic silhouettes, classic looks (think white with denim, think strong elevated basics).
- Neutrals – possibly my favorite trend! Neutrals layered up on neutrals! Beautiful beiges, ivories, and white stays strong through fall! Anchor these against black and denim to add variety and interest! Gorgeous!

2. Assess your closet
Take a look at your closet and the upcoming trends, where are your holes, what are you missing? You can use my Instagram / page for inspo and the collages throughout this post.
3. Decide what’s worth buying on the sale
This is a little more nuanced. Ok, a lot! It depends on your budget and what you’ll wear most. Go back and look at some of those collages, what are the things you can’t stop thinking about? Now that you’ve identified those, what are the things that you could find another item to get the look for less? I’ll be posting the Looks for Less that I think are great options this week!
4. make your wishlist on LikeToKnow.it or Nordstrom.com

What You’ll see and what I’m planning to get from the sale
Overall you’ll see a lot of long line open front cardigans, denim, booties, and joggers. My favorites are the long haul items that you’ll want quality to go the distance.
This suede jacket. It’s marked down to $111 during the sale for genuine suede! You’ll easily wear this jacket for years to come. Throw it on over a LBD, a tee and denim, a boho dress, a little white dress…so many ways to wear this, I’m getting so excited to get it!! The color of this one is beautiful and was on my wish list all last year. I have leather jackets that I bought over 10 years ago and consistently wear over the years. And they look like new. At just over $100, it’s an amazing deal!
This suede skirt. Another suede piece of clothing I know! But this is the time to buy items like this when they’re on sale and you have the whole season ahead to wear them! I can’t wait to wear this with oversized ivory sweaters, knee high and over the knee boots, long duster cardigans over a cami, in pre-fall with a tank and tennies, with a sweatshirt and tennies, with a graphic tee and denim jacket and sneaks…ahh, I can’t wait!
These Knee high boots. I kicked myself all season last year for not buying these. They are $150 and in my opinion worth every penny. I have a similar pair from last year from target with a more rounded toe and honestly, I still can’t wait to get these! I’ll wear these casually with light wash denim, a white tee and tan duster cardigan; dressy with a black dress….pretty much with everything!
I’ve debated about the favorite low booties with the side V, but I’m planning to get the half price dupe pair instead. Gotta watch the budget somewhere!
I can’t wait to see what you pick! Here is a quick listing of the items shown in this post so you can favorite all you’re thinking about grabbing!
Happy Shopping!
